Robert "Bob" Ward and his brother Dave moved to Young County around 1910 and homesteaded ranch land northeast of Newcastle, in the True community. Robert and Dave build homes on adjoining property which is located on Ward Road today. During the early 1900's these two brothers operated a large herd on land they owned and additional leased land. Almost all the Bob Ward land remains in the family even today. Bob Ward had one son, Robert Pitman "R. P." Ward.

P. also inherited a part of the Dave Ward Ranch which he operated until his death in 2000. The R. P. Ward land was deeded to his four sons, Charles E. Ward, David C. Ward, James R. "Bob" Ward, and William W. "Bill" Ward, thus created the "W4 Cattle Company".
